Replace Solenoid Latch on Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics MTS Centrifuge 5150-60

  1. Make sure the drawer is unlocked and will open. If it is locked and won’t open with the front panel controls, you can find a manual release on the back (See photo). Use something like a screwdriver to push the switch to the side and the drawer should unlock. The mechanism is spring loaded so you might have to push pretty hard. It may help to push in on the drawer to release some of the tension form the mechanism.

  2. Turn off the device and unplug the power cord (from the back of the machine)

  3. Remove the 7 screws that secure the back panel.

  4. Remove the back panel, turn it sideways, and push it into the cabinet. You will need to remove the drawer to get to the solenoid valve. Since the drawer is attached to the back panel by a cord, you’ll have to pull the back panel through to the front of the cabinet with the drawer.

  5. To Remove the drawer from the cabinet you need to pull the device to the edge of the bench. The enclosure with the electrical components prevents you from being able to lift the drawer off of the bottom slide rail. Pull the drawer all the way out and pull it way down toward the ground. You need to tilt it down far enough to get the back of the enclosure past the gasket so you can lift the rollers of the drawer slides up out of the track.

  6. Remove the 3 screws securing the cover of the electrical enclosure and remove the cover. Note the location of the solenoid latch.

  7.  Make a note of the wire connections to the solenoid latch. I suggest taking a picture. Be sure your picture shows unambiguously which wire connects to which terminal. Remove the wires from the latch.
